Zhu Rongji, former Premier of the People’s Republic of China, was one of the most consequential leaders in China’s modern economic history. He was an inspirational leader who took bold actions to reform China’s closed and state-dominated economy. When I worked with him, I was always struck by his understanding of economics, his commitment to educating future generations of Chinese youth in market economics, and his vision for a more globally integrated China.
